I was elected as a European Bone Marrow Transplant (EBMT) infectious diseases working party member nurse leader in 2024 and also as a member of the EBMT nurses’ group. I am the first Asian nurse to be part of EBMT. I have participated in update of the infection registry in BMT and part of the group’s research.

I was honored to be invited by the EBMT nurse group as a guest speaker on “Screening of Infections after Bone Marrow Transplantation” at the annual nurses meeting in Nantes, France in October 2025.

After my participation in the conference, I feel more empowered, and it has boosted my morale to work with more enthusiasm. I met with nurse leaders from different countries working in a BMT unit who shared their experiences of screening patients, admission processes and specifically how they are doing home care, which was unique for me. In Pakistan, home nursing or contactable discharge is not streamlined, so I learnt various approaches and how the nurses maintain post-discharge nursing care of BMT patients, which has a positive impact on patient survival.
