In 2010, after winning a British Airways contest, photographer and ovarian/endometrial cancer survivor Carolyn Taylor began a photo documentary project, logging more than 100,000 air miles and visiting 14 countries, to show that cancer has no borders. In this presentation, we will meet the people and places behind the images and hear how the lack of awareness, education, and support many of us in high-resource settings take for granted, inspired her to establish an NGO, Global Focus on Cancer to act as an agent of simple and effective change to help reduce the global burden of cancer. She will share how she views her cancer diagnosis as an opportunity, a catalyst for change, an empowering force in her life, and a means of connecting people and resources for the greater good. Carolyn serves as a content expert with the Women’s Empowerment Cancer Advocacy Network, sits on ASCO’s Gynecologic Cancer Guidelines Committee and a Measures Panel, was a contributing author to the Lancet series ‘Health, Equity and Women’s Cancers’, has co-authored more than a dozen peer-reviewed articles, and is currently a member of the Lancet Commission; Women, Power and Cancer. She is a frequent speaker/moderator at global cancer conferences and since 2016, has served as the co-founder and co-chair of the annual SE Asia Breast Cancer Symposium.

Every day, seven young people aged 13-24 hear the words “you have cancer”. They will each need specialised nursing care and support to get them through the toughest times they may have faced. Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to meeting this vital need.
Teenage Cancer Trust’s world-leading care and support puts young people in the best possible place, physically, mentally and emotionally, for their cancer treatment and beyond.
Each year, their specially trained nurses and youth workers support hundreds of teenagers and young adults in 28 units in hospitals nationwide, as well as helping many more in local hospitals and at home.
And the charity’s post-treatment events bring young people with cancer together so they can meet others who know what they’re going through and support one another.
UKASCC is a new multidisciplinary association with a mission: supportive care makes excellent cancer care possible:
Supportive care in cancer is the prevention and management of the adverse effects of cancer and its treatment. This includes management of physical and psychological symptoms and side effects across the continuum of the cancer experience from diagnosis through treatment to post-treatment care. Supportive care aims to improve the quality of rehabilitation, secondary cancer prevention, survivorship, and end-of-life care.
